Kelly Jacobsen's Blog

You can read entries from Kelly's complete historical blog archives here.

As the daughter of two journalists, Kelly Jacobsen has always had a great interest in writing. She got an early start as a gossip columnist in the seventh grade and worked her way up before becoming the editor of the Topeka High School newspaper. As editor, Kelly dedicated her time to informing students about critical legislative issues affecting them.

During her senior year of high school, Kelly also worked as a staff reporter for The Topeka Capital-Journal, frequently covering political issues from a youth perspective. After writing a column about The College Cost Reduction Act, she was invited to speak on the steps of the US Capitol by Former U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Boyda. The speech occurred during a rally highlighting the work of the 110th Congress.

Kelly has taken a break from her journalism career to pursue her second passion: politics. After working on Rep. Boyda’s 2008 Congressional campaign (KS-02), she took a position with the Great Plains Alliance for Clean Energy as an advocate for responsible energy policy, an issue that has dominated the past two legislative sessions in Kansas.

Currently, Kelly is spending six months in Washington DC while interning with the League of Conservation Voters. In her position as grassroots fundraising and communications intern, Kelly works on programs that mobilize the organization’s activist base and also blogs regularly for LCV’s Act Green.

While energy and conservation issues are her main interests, Kelly is also a strong advocate for government accountability and youth involvement. She serves as secretary of the Kansas Young Democrats and it is her hope that in this position she can build a more active and vocal population of young voters.

Kelly is on Twitter here and at her Facebook page. She also welcomes email at Jacobsen.Kelly at gmail.com. Kelly also writes at Kansas Free Press.

Kelly welcomes you to read her blog posts here.
